The Nursing Professional Association shapes the leadership approach of its members.

From my perspective, a leader should be able to recognize their own strengths and weaknesses and have the ability and the capacity to influence others. Leaders should encourage their team members to share their own experiences. The best leader listens to all members of the team and attempts to resolve every issue before making any final decisions. True leadership is someone who uses the talents of coworkers in the workplace. This allows coworkers to have fun at work and also gives them job satisfaction. This ultimately helps you achieve your goal. Leadership is the ability to affect others’ values, conduct, attitude, and behavior. A leader with strong management skills is a role model to his employees. Leaders who are able to achieve outstanding results or perform well gain the admiration of their employees and help them change their beliefs, values, and attitudes (Yazdanifard 2015). Because everyone is involved in decision-making, I believe democratic leadership is the best. This leadership style is inclusive and includes everyone. This gives team members satisfaction because they are involved in the decision-making process (Rose Ngozi Amanchukwu 2015). Formal Leadership “Formal leader” is an individual who has used his authority to influence other members to achieve organizational goals (Anderson 2018, 2018).

Formal leadership: Role

Formal leaders have more power to make decisions.

Any task can be given a direct direction by a formal leader.

This leadership style is as top-down. A nurse in the ICU has power and can give orders to the nurses.

Formal leaders are members of an organization who have empowered them to achieve their organizational goal.

Informal LeadershipAn informal leader is someone who is respected by his peers and has a good reputation. Although the unofficial leader does not have any authority or power over his colleague, he can influence other people’s decisions (Krueger 2013, 2013).

Informal leadership: Role

Informal nursing leaders are nurses who have been certified as specialists and are clinically competent. This type of leader is responsible for influencing others.

The informal ruler is not authorized to hire, fire, or compensate others, but they can be charismatic, open-minded, willing, and have the ability to fire.

Many non-formal leader can be trouble-shooters and super users.

Example: I was a nurse and participated in informal leadership. I was one day on the nightshift. 8 patients were present on the ward. The nurses placed one student with them because there wasn’t enough staff. It was clear to me that I needed to deal with the situation and accept it as it was. No one would give more help. I decided to work with both students and patients. I will give the medication. The patient started to show signs of serious illness. So, I decided to go check the patient’s health and noticed that the patient wasn’t responding. I activated code blue to warn the patient. I ask my student to turn on the code blue. I then bring all of the equipment to the patient. When the team arrives, I tell the team leader about the patient’s condition and he then gives us the instructions. In this instance, I was able to save the patient’s life.

Leadership Philosophy Influenced By Nursing Professional Associations Canada Professional associations are evidence-based and help patients get the best possible care. The patient was always at the center of my attention. I must establish a rapport with all levels of the hospital. Even though I don’t hold any leadership authority, I can still use my informal leadership to provide high-quality care for patients. Good leadership skills can make a difference in the outcome and customer experience. Even health-care providers can be unofficial leaders and make a significant impact on their work environment.

I would summarize my belief that leadership is essential in every person’s daily life. I have learned from my role models and experience. My leadership skills are a combination of knowledge and mistakes. I learned them by watching my role models. Leaders are those who have the ability to motivate their team and can lead them. I try to influence others in a positive way, and get the opinions of my team members before taking any decisions.
