Why I Believe That Andrew Carnegie Was A Hero

Andrew Carnegie was at one time the richest man on earth. Andrew Carnegie’s success story is one of riches from rags. Andrew Carnegie was raised in Dunfermline, Scotland. In the late 1800s, he and his family moved to America. He rose from an Irish immigrant to become a popular industrialist, who changed the U.S. steel sector in the late 19th-century.

Andrew Carnegie’s charity was it a legend? First, let’s define what it means to be a great philanthropist. A philanthropist looks out for the welfare others and often donates money. To be a Hero is to be known for being courageous, heroic, or displaying noble qualities. Andrew Carnegie is a hero to me in many ways. Andrew Carnegie was a powerful philanthropist. He helped create jobs and improved the American steel industry. Carnegie was a passionate supporter of philanthropy. He was a firm believer that “The obligation of the man in wealth (is) to) set an example…of modest…living.., and to…to consider surplus revenues…as trust money…to produce the greatest benefits for the society” (Doc. B). Carnegie gave more than $350,000,000 to charities, churches, and libraries during his lifetime (Doc C). He gave this money away while he was still alive. He said that he didn’t believe a man should wait to die before making a difference in the world. (Doc. B). Carnegie created the Carnegie Organization. He donated $145,000,000. The Carnegie Organization was established to aid colleges, universities and technical schools as well as scientific research. Andrew Carnegie is a hero. He donated his money, while still alive, to the community to benefit everyone, even those who he did not owe.

Andrew Carnegie is remembered for being a reliable, capable, and generous man. Andrew Carnegie was a person who tried to improve the quality of life for others and their families. Carnegie was born in poverty and he felt the pain of the poor. He wanted to make sure that those less fortunate could have better lives. Even though he made some poor choices, he persevered and did what he believed to be the best. Everyone makes mistakes. Andrew Carnegie is my hero.
